The Orville Bulman Catalogue Raisonné
Definition of the term, "Catalogue Raisonné"
A catalogue raisonné is a book of all the authentic works by an individual artist written by the recognized expert of the artist's work. It contains small photographs (if possible) of every authentic work, provenance (where the work has been) if available, literature in which the work has been recorded, exhibitions of the particular work and the size of the work if known. Some include signature examples of the artist. If the estate of a mid-twentieth century artist is extant, it holds the copyright and power to permit the scholar to record and publish the images of the works in the catalogue raisonné.
Sometimes, spurious works are featured in the back of the catalogue raisonné to expose questionable works, and often the catalogue contains an introduction concerning the artist's life.
Deborah C. Pollack, the only recognized expert and scholar on the art and life of Orville Bulman, author of Inspired Whimsy: The Genius of Orville Bulman and of the monograph on the artist, Orville Bulman: An Enchanted Life and Fantastic Legacy, is compiling paintings for the Orville Bulman Catalogue Raisonné. Deborah C. Pollack is the only person authorized by the Orville Bulman Estate to write the Orville Bulman Catalogue Raisonné.
